Headlight Restoration Waxahachie, TX:

Restore Your Headlights & Get Better Visibility

Have you noticed an ugly yellow layer of grime on your headlights? Or maybe they’re hazy and not as clear as they used to be? If so, your visibility at night-time and in rainy weather will be greatly reduced. No need to worry, you don’t have to buy new headlights, nor do you have to open up the lens (as most people believe the haziness is from the inside of the lens… most of the time it’s not.)

The Headlight Restoration Process

We don’t use a generic headlight repair kit that you find at your local auto parts store. We go through a full 8-step sanding, compounding, polishing, and protection process to offer the best results.

1

Start sanding with 800 grit sandpaper

2

Sand headlight with 1,000 grit sandpaper

3

Sand headlight with 1,500 grit sandpaper

4

Sand headlight with 2,500 grit sandpaper

5

Sand headlight with 3,000 grit sandpaper

6

Compound the headlight to remove sanding marks

7

Polish the headlight to bring out maximum clarity of the lens

8

Protect the headlight with a 1-year ceramic coating

By sanding your headlights, we’re removing the old layer of clear coat that has failed and oxidized (which leads to the yellow-foggy look). Then we’ll compound and polish to bring them back to a like-new condition. Finally, for protection, we’ll apply a 1-year ceramic coating.

Headlight Restoration FAQs

How long does this service take to complete? It depends on the size and condition, but on average it takes 45 to 90 minutes to complete. If the condition is severe, it’ll take longer.

Can you restore any headlights? Like with many things, once your headlights get a certain point, there is only so much we can do to make them look brand new. We can definitely make them look better, but some headlights have permanent damage that can’t be fixed.

Why do my headlights get yellow and foggy? Just like your vehicle’s paint, headlights have clear coat on top of them. As the sun and other elements beat down on the clear coat, it deteriorates. Eventually, what was the clear coat turns into an ugly layer of yellow grime and haze. Because of the material headlights are made from, clear coat doesn’t last as long on them as it would on car paint. The Texas sun constantly beaming down on them causes for even quicker deterioration.

How do I keep my headlights in good condition? This one can be tricky. If you park your car in the shade, that can help, as the sun rays play a major factor in clear coat deterioration. You can also apply a wax/sealant to the headlights every 3-5 weeks to maintain their appearance. This usually only takes about 15 minutes to do.
